OneAmerica Dept.: Actuarial Corporate Valuation, division
What should an intern bring on their first day? Notebook with a pen. There were some things I should have written down.
Describe OneAmerica culture in one word: Welcoming. Coming into internship, I was nervous. But the environment helped me to become comfortable with what OneAmerica has to offer.
Best piece of advice you were given during your internship? As you journal about your experience, write everything you’re doing over summer without acronyms, so when you refer back to your notes, you’ll know what they were.
Best part of your internship: Getting to work with other actuarial interns and forming connections with them and other people in my department.
A skill you acquired or grew during your internship: Coding and programming skills. Also getting a chance to work on a team and collaborate with people from different departments.
What tip would you give to those interviewing for internships next summer? Be honest in what you are looking for in an internship. Try to make sure the work is something that will line up with your goals.
Best places to eat outside of OneAmerica Tower: Every Friday, we went to the City Market. We like it because there are always a lot of choices.
