Sandy McCarthy

President, Retirement Services

Sandy McCarthy is president of Retirement Services, and since joining OneAmerica® in 2018 has led all Retirement Services business for the company. In addition, she’s responsible for enterprise operations and overseeing the enterprise service strategy. Under her leadership, OneAmerica offers defined contribution and defined benefits services with a strong focus on customized retirement plans through highly personalized administration, recordkeeping and institutional services. A member of the OneAmerica Executive Council, Sandy brings more than 30 years of industry experience, including executive leadership roles at Mercer, ING (now Voya), CitiStreet and Fidelity Investments.

Before joining OneAmerica, Sandy was a senior partner at Mercer for seven years, where she served as North America Region Benefits Administration Business Leader. In addition, she previously served as Mercer’s CEO and board member of its Asia-Pacific Outsourcing Business, living in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to these roles, Sandy was a 21-year contributor at ING and its legacy companies, as president of ING Institutional Plan Services and previously, as president and board member of CitiStreet, LLC, (prior to its acquisition by ING in 2008). She’s also held leadership positions with Bank of America and State Street. Sandy graduated with honors from Tufts University, earning both her bachelor’s degree in sociology/education and Master of Arts in education. She then completed a Master of Business Administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Sandy was also an adjunct professor at the Curtis L. Gerrish School of Business at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Sandy is active in the retirement and financial services industry, and she has served on the board of directors of the American Benefits Council and the Spark Institute. Currently, she is vice chair of the executive committee and board member with the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). In addition, Sandy is vice chair and board member of LIMRA/LOMA Secure Retirement Institute. Sandy was a founding member of the Superannuation Industry Leadership Group in Australia. Sandy is passionate about advancing the communities where she lives and works. She has served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and the Beverly School for the Deaf. Currently, she serves on the board of trustees for the American Red Cross of Indiana and Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, where she is also a member of the investment committee. In 2020, Sandy received the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Women of Influence Award, which recognizes women leaders who’ve risen to the highest levels of business, the arts, and community and public service in central Indiana.
