Three OneAmerica Clients Earn Industry Recognition for Retirement Plans

Winner and two finalists for 2016 PLANSPONSOR honor emphasize participant education

Indianapolis, March 31, 2016

Clients of the Companies of OneAmerica earned U.S. retirement industry recognition today for their retirement plans and emphasis on participant education, led by Mental Health Cooperative, named a 2016 PLANSPONSOR of the Year winner in the 403(b) category.

Honored as finalists were Dupuy Storage and Forwarding LLC, a New Orleans, Louisiana-based port warehouse and logistics company, in PLANSPONSOR’s Corporate 401(k) <$15M category; and Medical Associates of Northeast Arkansas, or MANA, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the Corporate 401(k) $50M - $200M.

“These plan sponsors are true leaders in helping their employees understand retirement readiness,” said Bill Yoerger, President, OneAmerica Retirement Services. “They are dedicated, forward-thinking, and driven to achieve with a participant-first approach that’s second to none.”

Mental Health Cooperative, a nonprofit based in Nashville, Tennessee, reported a 93 percent participation rate, with its employees deferring an average of 6.8 percent to company-designated plan.

“We work exceptionally hard so that our workforce understands how critical it is to invest now, while they are in the beginning phases of their careers. It’s a financial backbone,” said Michael Kirshner, vice president of business development at Mental Health Cooperative.

MANA has an employee participation rate of 94 percent, with each participant deferring an average of 8 percent. Dupuy has a participation rate of 91 percent, with average deferral rate of 5.72%.

The participation rate is higher than the industry averages as measured by Employment Benefit Research Institute.[1]

OneAmerica collaborates with plan sponsors and plan advisers to define clients’ retirement plan goals as the foundation. OneAmerica then creates a program using our tools— plan design, customized communication and education — to help the plan sponsors and their participants achieve their respective goals.

PLANSPONSOR, a monthly magazine published by Asset International, presents honors in nine categories. Nominations are accepted from a variety of sources across the industry—including providers, advisers, consultants, actuaries, attorneys, third-party administrators (TPAs), employees and colleagues. All nominees are then asked to supply details about their plan’s administration, participant statistics and data such as participation rates. A committee of PLANSPONSOR editors reviews the submissions and selects the winners and finalists from among the various categories.

“These are leaders in retirement planning best practices, working to provide more secure financial outcomes for their workers,” said Alison Cooke Mintzer, editor-in-chief of PLANSPONSOR.

Awards will be handed out March 31 in New York City.
