Record Intern Class Experiences Key Assignments at OneAmerica

36 college students bring robust talent to multiple financial service functions

Indianapolis, July 12, 2022

OneAmerica® has doubled down on its investment in providing valuable corporate and cultural experience to college students, welcoming an all-time high of 36 summer interns. This class is nearly twice its average for the company.

“People are at the heart of our business – from the customers we serve and the associates who help us thrive, to the interns who play an important role in our continued, long-term vibrancy,” said Scott Davison, chairman, president and CEO of OneAmerica. “Today’s students are navigating an increasingly complex marektplace as they take their first career steps, and OneAmerica is proud to create strong opportunities for the next generation of top talent.”

The interns represent a record 20 universities, hailing from eight states and 22 cities. They range from those in their first year of college to Ph.D candidates. Two interns joined OneAmerica as part of an affiliation with the International Association of Black Actuaries.

During a 12-week period, the interns are positively impacting Actuarial, Claims, Community Affairs, Data Analytics/Governance, Finance, HR, IT/Cybersecurity, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Portfolio Management, Retirement Services, Sales and Talent Management.

The 2020 and 2021 classes were remote, but this year OneAmerica interns are working both virtually and in-person, collaborating on critical operations, working on community projects and learning relationship-building skills through multiple internal mentorships. The OneAmerica programming for its interns places special emphasis on educating interns’ understanding of today’s workplace, the evolving nature of DEI coursework, and the importance of our associates’ commitment to community involvement.

The company will onboard 24 students from Indiana schools: Indiana University (11); the University of Notre Dame (three); Purdue University (two); IUPUI (two), and one each from Purdue/IUPUI, IU Kokomo, Butler University, Ball State University, Franklin College and the University of Southern Indiana. Nationally, there are 12 students from 11 universities, representing Illinois State University (two) and one each from American Military University, Brigham Young University, DePaul University, Kansas State University, Miami (Ohio) University, Michigan Technological, University of Iowa, University of South Florida, University of Southern Maine and University of Texas at El-Paso.

In addition to its internship program, the enterprise again welcomes 10 participants with its OneAmerica® Pathways Junior Fellows Program, the company’s pioneering work-based learning program that introduces Indianapolis-area high school students to mentors and careers in financial services.

Many of the participating students cited community involvement as a reason they were attracted to a position with OneAmerica.
