Gene Berry Named 2017 CTO of the Year

OneAmerica^® Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Gene Berry has been named a 2017 Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) and TechPoint, the Central Indiana business association focused on the advancement and expansion of the local technology industry.

The annual CTO of the Year awards honor top local information technology leaders who are instrumental in helping companies, non-profits and government organizations advance and innovate. Now in its third year, the program recognizes the men and women who develop the technology strategies and systems that power their enterprises, serve their customers and fuel growth.

Gene was the top honoree in the category of private companies with revenue over $100 million.

“This award is as much a reflection of my colleagues as it is a personal honor,” said Berry, who joined OneAmerica in 2010. “I work with an extremely talented group of over 200 IT professionals who solve difficult tech problems on a daily basis.”

The IBJ highlighted a few of Berry’s accomplishments in a recent profile: “In 2015, Berry’s information technology leadership enabled the completion of the largest acquisition in OneAmerica’s history: BMO Retirement Services. He also led the restructuring of the entire OneAmerica IT division and the initiative to choose a new infrastructure provider. He introduced Agile Development methodologies and advanced cybersecurity efforts, introduced mobile technology to nearly 2,000 employees, and enabled wireless technology in all office locations.”

This is the second recognition from the IBJ of an executive from OneAmerica in two years. Jeff Holley, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, was IBJ’s 2015 Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Year. In addition, Scott Davison, current president, chair and CEO of OneAmerica, was a recipient of IBJ’s CFO of the Year honor in 2008.
