OneAmerica announces 2016 Life Lessons Scholarship recipient

OneAmerica announced that Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Sydney Delgado has been selected as a 2016 Life Lessons Scholarship Winner. The college student was only three months old when she lost her mother to skin cancer. Throughout Sydney’s young life, she has worked multiple jobs to help support herself and her family, including the three jobs she now works to make ends meet, while pursuing a Christian ministry major with a global ministry minor.

“Our hope for Sydney is that this scholarship provides both a well-deserved financial boost and some peace of mind as she pursues her dream of becoming affiliated with a ministry that helps people around the world,” said Pat Foley, OneAmerica president of Individual Life and Financial Services. “More broadly, I hope stories like Sydney’s encourage families to think long-term and prepare to take care of their loved ones, regardless of what the future may hold.”

The OneAmerica Life Lessons Scholarship is provided in coordination with Life Happens – a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial support to current and aspiring college students who have lost a parent. The annual program aims to highlight the need for families to include life insurance in financial plans.

Josh Hauser, OneAmerica vice president and chief agency officer, and Jeff Semler, president of Indianapolis-based Semler Financial Group, will present the scholarship check to Sydney.
