27 Interns Have Key Summer Assignments at OneAmerica®
Record class brings college and community ties to national financial services firm
Indianapolis, June 22, 2021
OneAmerica® Financial Partners this summer welcomes its largest and most diverse intern class ─ 27 students representing over a dozen top universities ─ who will work virtually as they serve key support roles, drive business and objectives, and add to a reliable annual talent pipeline.
“The seeds of tomorrow’s workforce are planted during these 12 weeks of summer,” said Scott Davison, chairman, president and CEO of OneAmerica. “We’re delighted to nurture our biggest, brightest group to date while introducing them to the intracacies of our work and the culture of OneAmerica.”
Interns are working a 12-week assignment (May 24 through August 13) providing support to departments such as actuarial, commercial mortgage, finance, IT, human resources, forensics, cybersecurity, internal controls and legal. As with the 2020 class, they are working remotely but interactively, collaborating on critical operations and community projects, expanding their work experience and relationship-building skills.
Activities will also include engagement in an annual community service project with United Way, participating in Indyfluence (a summerlong collaboration of interns from fellow central Indiana companies), as well as significant project work within their respective teams.
OneAmerica collaborates with a variety of campuses for its intern program. This year, the company is hosting 17 students from Indiana schools: IUPUI (five, including a student associated with IUPUI and Ivy Tech Community College), Purdue University (four), Indiana University-Bloomington (two), Butler University (two), the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Marian University, the University of Notre Dame and Taylor University. Nationally, 10 students represent Brigham Young University, DePaul University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Grambling State University, Illinois State University, the University of Maine-Farmington, the University of Nevada-Reno, Northern Arizona University, the University of South Carolina and Temple University.
The intern class includes a law student and a past participant in the OneAmerica Pathways Junior Fellows Program, the company’s pioneering program that brings in diverse talent from underserved areas of the city. Interns are based literally from coast to coast ─ California to Maine ─ but also represent 13 Indiana cities, primarily in Central Indiana.
“Our summer intern program is a competitive, sought-after experience for the next generation of financial services and technical professionals to sharpen their skills as they enter this unique field,” said Karin Sarratt, executive vice president, Human Resources, Enterprise Strategy, Marketing and Communications and Community Affairs. “They touch all of our key lines of business ─ life insurance, retirement services and employee benefits ─ as well as high-tech positions that serve as the critical component to meeting our company mission of being there for our clients when they need us most.”
Many of the students cited community involvement as a reason they were attracted to a position with OneAmerica.
