Exhibition by Diverse Artists at OneAmerica Tower Illustrates Opportunity

Innovative art collaboration with GANGGANG offers corporate blueprint for inclusion

Indianapolis, September 27, 2022

OneAmerica® is continuing its long-standing tradition as a champion of public art in a new way by utilizing OneAmerica Tower to showcase the works of five minority creators in collaboration with GANGGANG, the organizers of BUTTER: A Fine Art Fair that took place Labor Day Weekend.

Opening today on all four sides of the 12th floor of OneAmerica Tower, the 20-piece temporary collection entitled “Between Us | Midwest Vanguard” features watercolors, oil on canvas, and mixed media pieces in a secure, elevated setting. Works on display and available for sale include pieces by: Lyndy Bazile, Hannah Paz-Westbrook, Sarah Jene, Terrible Tony, and Ayanna Tibbs.

“We’re reimagining our walls as a space to create opportunity for art, artists, and cultural development,” said Jen Pittman, vice president, Community Affairs and Workforce Innovation for OneAmerica. “By making these visual works more accessible, we’re painting outside the lines of what businesses typically do, and we hope the idea that sparked us to go ‘beyond the art gallery’ influences others.”

GANGGANG is a creative agency that promotes beauty, equity, and culture with programming and events that support local artists. Its recent successes include BUTTER, BUTTER 2, “We. The Culture: Works by The Eighteen Art Collective” at Newfields, and the Next Up music showcase. OneAmerica is the first company to commission the nonprofit organization for corporate curation of art for its 12th floor gallery, the OA Conference Center. The art was installed just a few weeks ago, along with additional details on each artist and piece.

“OneAmerica is leading by example,” said Malina Simone Jeffers, GANGGANG cofounder. “GANGGANG is an organization that’s driving cultural conversations in Indianapolis, but we can’t do it alone. Having a corporate connection that’s willing to provide prime, protected space for new work and curatorial ideas can make all the difference.”

OneAmerica and the OneAmerica Foundation Inc. have supported art and artists in the community for decades. In 2015, OneAmerica donated six oil paintings from Theodore Clement Steele and one from John Ottis Adams, a fellow member of the Hoosier Group of impressionist painters, to Indiana University. The paintings were appraised at $500,000. Since 2000, more than $25 million has been invested to support education, community development, civic groups, nonprofits and arts organizations such as Indiana Repertory Theatre, Broad Ripple Art Fair and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
